Do you like to share your opinion via anonymous polls?
Our Upskill Create Community has answered several poll questions over the last few months and I’d like to share with you the results. The polls are anonymous, but I do share how I voted in each one. If you’d like to see the polls in the community, you can click HERE. We have over 1750 members in our community, so with only 10 or 12 responses to the polls that might seem like a small percentage.
Typically to have things be statistically significant you need at least 1000 responses, but I always wonder how big is the total group size? If you send out your poll to 1 million people and 1000 respond (0.1% response), is that better than getting 10 responses from 1750 people (0.6% response)?
Note: one of the poll questions we did, which is our most popular poll question with over 245 comments is: “What do you want to get from a community of your peers?” I summarized the results on November 28, 2018, so it’s probably due for a refresh. You can read the blog post summarizing the results HERE or if you don’t want to read it, the basic conclusion I came to in answer to the question: “What do you want to get from a community of your peers?” is this: Shared wisdom based on experience.
Share your Opinion
Why share the results from opinion polls? I think they’re very interesting as individual stand-alone questions. But I’d also like to include the results from all of the polls that we have asked since November 5, 2018. There were 9 Poll Questions in total in addition to the question I shared above on “What do you want to get from a community of your peers?”. I’ll share the Polls in order of newest first:
9 Polls + 1 question
Poll #1: Which one of these Paint Points most affect you?
Posted March 12, 2019. 12 Responses
This question I think gets to the core concept of what I think our community is all about – helping people solve their problems. As a blogger, I can sometimes lose track of what people need help with. As you can see the top response is Job Security, which makes sense since we are an “Upskilling” community committed to helping others learn and earn badges. And, finding the right job opportunity and Stress and/or Fear about the Future were tied for second. You could argue that all three of these responses are related and I’d agree with that.
My vote for this poll was “Stress and/or Fear about the Future” which I think some entrepreneurs can relate to. After being comfortable with a steady paycheck for most of my adult working life, it’s hard to switch gears and embrace the unknown, not with fear but with expectation for opportunity. When fear raises it’s ugly head, I try to focus on the 5 Go-Giver Principles.
Poll #2: We are starting some groups focused on different topics. To join one of these groups, click the topic below. Would you like to lead?
Posted February 27, 2019. 31 Responses
Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things, which I grouped together because they are related, was the top winner of this poll, followed in a tie for second with Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and Cloud. Of course all three of these topics crossover into each other’s domains. I thought Data Science and Python would have gotten more votes, especially since Data Scientist is the number one hot job to get right now.
Poll #3: Are you interested in earning Virtual Tokens or Cryptocurrency as a reward system for engagement in the community?
Posted February 24, 2019. 16 Responses
I’m not sure why the community poll application uses yellow with white text. I find it very hard to read. Black text would be a better contrasting color. Note to self: contact the Mighty Networks platform with this suggestion.
This poll overwhelmingly supported the use of Virtual Tokens or Cryptocurrency as a reward mechanism to increase engagement in the community.
Poll #4: Would you like a Weekly Video Conference with our community? Pick your preferred day and time. It would last 30-45 minutes.
Posted February 20, 2019. 6 Responses
Based on only 6 responses, I don’t think I’ll add this to our weekly community calendar. However, I have heard of an idea that I’m going to test out called “Working Together Online”. Basically, I’ll start up a Zoom Video Conference call every day from 11am-1pm EST and 3pm-5pm EST. If you want to join, great. If not, no problem. If you want to join for 5 minutes or the full 2 hours, whatever you’d like to do, you can join.
The purpose is to motivate me and others, especially remote workers, to have a sense of community where we can share what we’re working on and learn from each other.
I’ll try it for this week and see how it goes, and if I get people joining then I’ll keep it going. #alwaysiterate
Eventually, if I get enough people joining, I may broadcast on a Twitch channel. It would also set a good example of a game related job that doesn’t end up in being a professional gamer. By the way, did you know there are 2.5 Billion Gamers on the planet? That’s more than Facebook users at 2.3 Billion monthly users.
Poll #5: Would you like me to share with you how to reduce your Video File Size of an .mp4 file by 87% with this FREE Program?
Posted February 6, 2019. 9 Responses
I have actually learned a better method to do this with reducing file sizes by 94%. There’s a simple 2 step process:
- Download ffmpeg HERE
- From your Command line (Windows) or Terminal (Mac) type in the following command to get a 94% reduction in file size:
- ffmpeg -i inputvideo.mp4 -c:v libx264 -crf 23 -preset medium -c:a aac -b:a 128k -movflags +faststart -vf scale=-2:720,format=yuv420p outputvideo.mp4
I can share several examples with you, where I have reduced file sizes by 94% using ffmpeg. Example: 750MB mp4 file down to 47MB mp4 file. I discovered the above command line from Stackoverflow.
Poll #6: We’ve redesigned our Upskill Create Blog. Check out the screen shot comparison here: http://bit.ly/uc-oldnew. Which do you like?
Posted January 18, 2019. 8 Responses
I’ll admit this one is a little self-serving. If people had said that they liked the old style blog better, I wasn’t going to switch back. Check it out for yourself. Which one do you like better: http://bit.ly/uc-oldnew ?
Poll #7: I want to do some video interviews of our members. What would be the best length of video?
Posted January 10, 2019. 43 Responses
This is the most popular poll so far with 43 responses. The top vote was to keep the videos short at 5 minutes, and second place was at 15 minutes. Oddly enough, although several people said they would like to be interviewed, I haven’t been able to line anyone up to do his. Is our community just camera shy?
Regardless of whether I actually am able to record some getting-to-know-you videos with our community, which would be a fantastic engagement activity, this poll is helpful when thinking about what length of videos people want to see. As a fan of Tim Ferriss video interviews and podcast, who regularly has 1 hour plus interviews with people, I personally like longer form video interviews that’s why I chose the 30-minute option.
Poll #8: Our Community has amazing smart collaborative people (Upskillers). How many Upskillers have you connected with via chat, comments, replies?
Posted November 23, 2018. 6 Responses
This poll is one that I’d like to try again. Since I posted it the week of Thanksgiving here in the USA, it didn’t get much response. My point in raising the poll questions is that one of the key value propositions of our community is collaborating and connecting with the community members. If we aren’t doing this, then you aren’t getting one of the key benefits for the community. Perhaps when I incentivize people with Tokens or Cryptocurrency we’ll get more connections. I can imagine incentivizing the following actions in our community with Tokens or Cryptocurrency:
- Logging into the community once per day or several times per day
- Chatting with other members
- Posting an article in the community
- Joining a group
- Taking one of our courses
- Earning a Digital Badge
- Can you think of other actions we should incentivize? Leave a comment below
Poll #9: How many minutes PER DAY do you use the Mighty Networks Mobile App?
Posted November 5, 2018. 18 Responses
We’ve got some work to do in this area as I receive great benefits from using the mobile app throughout my day. The best part is when I get notified of new activity in the community. Plus the app is well designed and looks beautiful. I’m proud to show it off. It’s also very functional with an easy to use interface to navigate the different parts of the community. I also like how you can access multiple networks within the same app. As an example, I have these networks hooked up to my app:
- Upskill Create
- Mighty Hosts
- eCourse Adventures
- Blogging Buddies
- Natural Healing Hope
- Better
Question #1: What do you want to get from a Community of your Peers?
Posted November 28, 2018. 212 Responses
This is by far the most popular post in the community with 212 responses. I had enough data to analyze the comments and share some insights at: http://bit.ly/uc-want.
In conclusion, these 9 polls and 1 question give you a small snapshot of the things that are important to our community members. Of course, I wish everyone would respond to these polls, but it’s not too late.
