There is a great quote by Thomas Watson, Jr. where he says:
“Computers will never rob man of his initiative or replace the need for his creative thinking. By freeing man from the more menial or repetitive forms of thinking, computers will actually increase the opportunities for the full use of human reason.“
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Computers can remove the mundane tasks from life and allow us to pursue higher level creative thinking.
This is also why I love Python. Python is a language that allows you to automate tasks. Check out this post: “How to apply for 1,000 jobs on Linkedin while you sleep“. How does the author do it? Python.
To learn how you can automate boring tasks with Python, check out this free PDF here: “Automate the Boring Stuff with Python” or if you’d like to read an actual physical book, you can buy it on Amazon HERE.
I’m also offering a great value on a Python Course with 26 hours of hands-on video training for just $7.99 (that’s only $0.32 per hour of video), join the community below and click on the left side bar where it says “Courses” and you can get the Python Course.
But what about the remaining boring and mundane tasks that can’t be automated?
I believe we also owe it to ourselves and those that work for us to convert those boring tasks into active tasks.
This is why we allow our workers to listen to music with one ear bud to give them some background music for boring tasks. It makes me very happy to see our workers grooving to their music while doing boring tasks. Others choose to listen to audio books or podcasts or listen to nothing at all. We give them the freedom.
And in the drive by corporations to reduce their workforce through automation for a purely financial motivation, we often forget the psychological well being for those workers who have to do the boring tasks that can’t be automated.
In the video below, we show a great example, where by changing the configuration of an assembly line into a U-turn, we were able to reduce the workers required from 2 to 1, but more importantly we reduced 2 boring tasks into 1 active task (background music optional).
